After twenty eight days backpacking Vietnam, Malaysia and Sumatra we hit Port Douglas famished and disheveled.
Here are our recommendations on the best places to eat and get your hair done!
If you think I’ve missed some out, leave me a comment below!
Port Douglas
Port Douglas is a small and quaint town in Queensland’s tropical north. It’s home to the infamous Sugar Wharf Jetty and the laid back Rex Smeal park with its green grass and palm trees overlooking Morey Reef and what we call sunset bay.
If you’ve been to Noosa near Brisbane, it is very similar but without the waves. We liked its chilled back vibe and spent a few days here before heading down to Townsville for a wedding.
Lotus Leaf
Asian salads, giant rice rolls, acai bowls, breakfast bowls and ice pops! Pretty much all of our favourite foods are served in this contemporary little restaurant which is located near Coles.
I think we ate here three times on our week long stay in PD! We took take-out once and their packaging is elegant and eco-friendly, which we loved.

Betty’s Bohemian Beach Cafe
On offer at Betty’s are raw cake, freshly squeezed juices, pancakes, breakfast bowls and I think burritos too.
Betty’s has early closing times so keep an eye out so you’re not disappointed. The kids came back RAVING about their breakfast and how much they enjoyed it so I’m pretty sure it was a successful morning out lol.
A big thanks to Rich who took the kids here whilst I had my hair done. All photos Samsung S7.
