UK Staycation Ideas, Staycations With Hot Tubs + Luxury Staycations in the UK seem to be on the agenda so if you’re looking for ideas for staycations and the best UK staycations, we’ve got you covered. We’ve done the donkey work and found the very best ideas for staycation holidays for families, romantic couples, hikers, dog walkers and everyone in between.

Best Rural Staycation
In the heart of the Lake District and overlooking panoramic views towards Blencathra, the Mungrisedale fells and Helvellyn is Erika’s Cottage.
What a fantastic base to explore the Lake District with Ullswater only 6 miles and Keswick and Derwentwater 8 miles away. However with a backdrop like that, why would you ever want to leave? This is truly a rural paradise.

Best City Staycation
Another idea for a city staycation would be the old city of York.
Inside York’s city walls, Stonegate Retreat is a luxury apartment with Minster views. Boasting two balconies, you’d be a two-minute walk from the Minster and a five-minute walk to England’s oldest street; The Rambles.
The Shambles is the oldest street in York with overhanging timber-framed buildings, some dating back to the fourteenth century.

Best Hot Tub Staycation
We think you should stay at Clock Cottage near Saddleworth.
With picturesque cobbled stone steps, a garden chiminea, a luxurious hot tub, a village pub, canal-side walks, Peak District hidden trails and even an electric vehicle charging point, what more could you possibly want from an idyllic countryside cottage in Derbyshire?
Can you imagine yourselves relaxing in this hot tub?

What’s The Best County For Staycations?
We think Norfolk is one of the best counties for a UK Staycation and Herbies Cottage near Snettisham has it all.
Herbies is a traditional Norfolk terraced cottage, tucked into the market village of Snettisham on the coast. The infamously long stretch of beach, Hunstanton, is a gem close by with its dunes and sheltered woods nearby.

Fancy A Scottish Staycation?
The Backrest close to Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye is an eco-friendly build with the latest eco-technology, underfloor heating and a log burning stove.
With amazing views across the Skye scenery from the floor to ceiling windows, this cottage brings the outdoors inside. Don’t forget to check out these three beaches whilst you’re there and if Skye isn’t enough, from here you could catch a ferry from Uig to Harris

The Best Bus Staycation
A converted bus in its own private wood might just be the coolest place to stay this year.
Just a 20-minute drive from Bantham to the beach and with superior, elevated views over the countryside we love this green bus and think it would make a very funky staycation.
South Devon is an area of natural beauty and very picturesque. The closest beach is Bantham beach but you also have Burgh Island a short distance away. There’s certainly no shortage of outdoor activities here.

Hiking UK Staycation Idea
In view and reach of Helvellyn, Fellview is a charming, former miner’s cottage that idyllically overlooks the dominating Helvellyn Mountain range.
If you’ve ever wanted to conquer Striding Edge, this could be your chance as the house is less than a fifteen-minute drive from one of the starting points.

Best UK Vegan Staycation
Veganism has grown exponentially over the last few years and this gorgeous vegan and vegetarian guesthouse in Wales would make a perfect getaway for a long weekend or longer holiday.
Over The Rainbow provides a vegan breakfast in a secluded woodland retreat just three miles from Cardigan Bay. I don’t know about you but I enjoy breakfast so much more when somebody has cooked it for me!

Best British Beach Staycation
Although we absolutely adore Cornwall, on this occasion, the best beach staycation has to go to this phenomenal postcard view over Tenby on the Pembrokeshire Coast.
Overhanging the beach of Tenby, this luxury apartment ranked a 5/5 stars for us and it’s somewhere we could just visit over and over again without it ever becoming tedious.

A Retro Staycation
Located between Falmouth and Truro, this 1978 Airstream Motorhome is set on five acres of stunning land where you’ll find three ponds, a small stream and an orchard with roughly 30 apple, plum and pear trees.

Best Wild Swimming Staycation
Wild swimming has become my newest obsession and where better in the UK to wild swim than Tellisford Weir on the River Frome.
Troopers Cottage near Frome in Somerset is a 1720s Georgian Cottage just a fourteen-minute drive to the Weir and a fifteen-minute walk to the artisan area of Catherine Hill.

Family Staycation Idea
If you’re looking for somewhere remote but Caribbean-looking, the Isles of Scilly off the Cornish Coast are your best bet. There’s not a huge choice of accommodation and you’ll need to book early but this set of white-sand islands will make you feel like you’re a million miles from the UK.
Check out the hotels on this map and get that holiday booked before somebody beats you to it.

Staycation With A Dog
Whitby with its famous Abbey and the surrounding long stretches of beach are a great idea for dog staycations.
This 200-year-old, fisherman’s cottage is ideally located in central Whitby which is just a short walk to the Abbey. Set over three floors with a spiral staircase, it has prime views over the River Esk and both of the bridges.

Glamping Staycation
Everyone knows that the south coast of England is the warmest but it’s also the busiest, so why not head to a tiny island to go camping?
The island of Iona is in the Inner Hebrides and one of our favourite island locations. These glamping pods are a great addition to the tourist industry here as they’re all eco-friendly but self-catering too.

Spa Staycations
When one of our friends posted a video from Lanelay Hall, I knew we had to visit.
Located in a 19th century Manor House on the River Ely, Cardiff, Lanelay Hall has indoor pools, saunas, enormous baths in the rooms, a magical terrace with a bar, pretty flower gardens and there are only seventeen rooms guaranteeing you an intimate and relaxing experience.
The reason we’ve chosen this spa above all others is that we think it’s phenomenally well-priced and gives real value for money.
There are three treatment rooms where you can enjoy your 60-minute treatments, followed by a light lunch or afternoon tea and all for £89-99 per treatment.
With spas entitled mama love, hypnotic tribal sleep, blush lustre, beautiful hero, hot rocking relax, calibrate 517 and Calibrate 517 liberty who could say no?!

Island Staycations
Scotland has roughly 800 islands and the Outer Hebrides receive only a small amount of tourism each year, making them the perfect island getaway.
The Isle of Lewis and Isle of Harris is the main island in the Outer Hebrides. Although they sound like two separate islands, Lewis and Harris are one island. The boundary between Lewis and Harris runs for about 6 miles (9.7 km), where the island narrows between Loch Resort and Loch Seaforth.
On Lewis & Harris, you will find sandy beaches, cliffs on the wild coastline, ancient standing stones and a fantastic Gaelic culture. The largest town is Stornoway on the east coast with a population of around 8000 people.
Airebroc Cottage on the west coast seems a perfect cottage to escape to.

Underrated Staycation
Liverpool is so often overlooked because of bad media coverage (thanks to right-wing sensationalist press) but it’s a fantastic city, is really lively, there’s loads to do and the city has some amazing architecture.
Our favourite hotel here is the Hope Street Hotel where Liverpool Football Club stay prior to their matches. The combination of exposed brick, wood floors, great views and being slap bang in the middle of The Georgian Quarter makes it a perfect hotel.

Overrated Staycation
We absolutely adore London however despite there being tons of things to do, there are nicer places to go on a staycation.
Our favourite hotel chain is the Radisson Blu and if you’ve got a few bob lying around and you fancy something a bit special, we suggest you head over to the Radisson Blu Edwardian Mercer Street Hotel.
Located in Covent Garden it’s a boutique hotel that just makes you feel a bit special.

Stay In A Yurt
Discover glamping with this beautiful Mongolian yurt near Bude in Cornwall. Crafted from sustainably sourced materials and furnished with contemporary luxury, you’ll have a blast here whilst being close to nature.
Enjoy the warmth of the wood-burning stove, a welcoming bed but not before you’ve checked out the stars above.

Cutest Castle Staycations
Originally built in 1560, on the site of an earlier medieval castle, Scargill Castle nestles in the beautiful Teesdale landscape near Barnard Castle.
The castle has everything you’d expect; Tudor courtyard gardens, a spiral staircase, stone walls, long tables, wooden roof beams, a roll-top bath and views to die for.

Staycation Where You Can Still Fly
Are you having flying withdrawals? I feel you. Nothing screams holiday more than getting the passport ready and weighing your hand luggage. So if you’re missing flying, here’s a fab little staycation where you can still fly.
Boasting 160 malt whiskies in their bar, Busta House Hotel in the Shetland Islands overlooks the shore of Busta Voe. Built between the 1th and 18th centuries it is a typical old Scottish building full of charm. With only twenty-two rooms (named after Shetland’s islands) you can be guaranteed a personal and intimate experience in a hotel that has rave reviews.
If you stay between November and March you may have a chance to see the Aurora Borealis which visits the skies.

A Hostel Staycation
Bath is one of England’s more prestigious cities. It has a large volume of historic sites which make it perfect for an inspiring holiday and staying in a hostel makes it super cheap.
The youth hostel, which is located on Bathwick Hill, has its own bus-stop which means you can catch the train and bus here and not bother with your car.
We love staying in hostels as we can book our own room for privacy but benefit from staying with global people who are a delight to meet. We’ve never had a bad experience in a hostel and our kids always meet someone interesting. When we stayed in a hostel in Chicago, they met a lady who taught them how to play pool & when we were in a hostel in Jordan, they met a German lady who taught them a few words in Arabic.

A Boat Staycation
Dream Catcher is a 60 foot Dutch Barge situated in Poole Quay Boat Haven. It has two double bedrooms with the main bed being a 6ft super kingsize.
The luxury boat (with its 48-inch flat screen tv) gives wonderful harbour views – imagine all those sunrises and sunsets from on the water and is just a few minutes walk from the centre of Poole.
